Day 1: Arrival in Mombasa

Arrive in Mombasa with the calm waters of the sea lapping along the pristine shores. The leaves of palm trees sway in the gentle wind. The delicate scent of ocean drifts in the breeze. Camel trains stroll across the beach, their eyelids heavy, their gait slow and steady. The waves in the background wade in and out in opulent blue. Venture through the city centre and see the giant tusks that adorn the street welcoming the visitors and locals alike with a giant M to commemorate the city’s name and Queen Elizabeth’s visit in the 1952.  The city bustles with the comforts and luxuries of the modern world sitting along the warm sandy beaches that stretch the length of Kenya. The glow of the city’s gems rises from Old Town as much as from the variety of beaches that surround Mombasa. Old Town is a reminder of when the Portuguese ruled the African port. The buildings resemble an Old Portuguese town with walls pushed cheek to cheek along the narrow streets and even thinner alleyways. Colourful and ornately carved doors and balconies adorn the buildings, shining like diamonds in the rough.  The scent of rich coffee rolls through the streets coupled with the history of the shops and cafes and mixing with the perfume of fragrant oils that glide along the streets. For a deeper and equally as exceptional touch of history visit the UNESCO World Heritage site, Fort Jesus. The fort is Another Portuguese structure and is considered the world’s finest example of 16th century Portuguese military architecture. The cobalt sea glistens in the warm sun. The scent of historic rock emanates from the walls. From a distance you can see that the structure resembles a man along the coastline. The museum exhibits a vast collection of ceramics and pottery from the diverse cultures that traded along the Kenyan shores. Visit the Omani house, where you can view Omani jewellery and experience a quick view of Swahili life. Day 2: The Eastern Savannah

In the morning you will depart from Mombasa, the water indigo in the morning light. Arrive in Tsavo East before lunch and venture into the savannah that you always dreamed Kenya to be. The grounds are a mixture of gilded prairie sprawling into the horizon with hills silhouetted beneath the brush of clouds. The brush of the plain is low, which makes the game drive more exciting, allowing ample opportunity to scour the horizon in search of the Big Five. The Big Five is known for being the five deadliest animals to hunt in the wild: the rhinoceros, elephant, Cape buffalo, lion, and leopard. The breeze blows through your hair and brings the scent of dried earth around you. In the short distance you can see the long neck and ruffled, black plumage of an ostrich running through the grass. Their legs as long as their neck, their stride shorter than you imagined, their knees bending backwards, but their speed is always impressive. Giraffes stroll along the plain, their height nothing like you could have imagined as they stop at random trees tearing the leaves from the branches with their tongues. They are almost taller than the trees, their large brown spots standing out against their paler coat. The sun begins to set along the prairie, the bronzed grass turns shades of orange, and a refreshing breeze blows through the plain. Day 3: Elephants on Parade

The dawn brings the waking sounds of the wild echoing through the plains. Rise early with the sunlight barely kissing the horizon for a chance to witness the wild at their most active, when the heat of the day is a distant memory and also a forthcoming future. A quiet stomp can be heard in the distance. The sun rises over the plain. The stomp grows louder. The scarce trees in the distance begin to bend. A herd of elephants parade along the tree line. Their skin glows red in the morning light. They have covered themselves with clay and dust of the land to keep cool in the heat of the day. They strip bark from the trees, pull leaves from the branches, and mark the area as they pass. The larger matriarchs lead the way through the plain as you watch the remaining members of the herd pass by. Continue your wild adventures by leaving the eastern plains behind and venturing to Tsavo West. The difference is immediately apparent. The expanse of savannah has given way to lush, hilly landscapes strewn with volcanic cones and vivid black lava flows. Drive deeper into the park and watch zebra wander through the trees and cross the road before you. Their black and white stripes almost hypnotic in the light. They graze along the weeds and grass of the road and volcanic rock. Visit Mzima Spring where you can witness the cohabitation of hippopotamus and crocodiles. The spring is the main source of fresh water for Mombasa and flows gracefully through Tsavo West. The size of a hippo generally keeps crocodiles at bay, but they share the same waterhole at Mzima. Hippos keep their ears wiggling just above the water, their eyes watching various directions. Their bodies are submerged much of the day to keep their sensitive skin safe from the heat of the afternoon sun. Crocodiles will bask on the shoreline and warm their bodies in the heat of the day. Day 4: Amboseli National Prak

The morning begins anew with the cries of hyena laughing in the darkness of dawn. Wake to the scent of freshly brewed coffee filling your room and calling you out to the wild. Venture out to see the morning life Tsavo West one more time before departing the wonders of the forested and volcanic crusted landscapes. You can hear the deep roar of lions, the fierce rumble humming in your bones. Your guide tells you to look off into the horizon. A troop of lionesses ambles through the tree line in search of food. Their necks stretched long, their strides calm and focused, dipping their snouts to the floor. The wonders of the wild are always compelling and inspiring. Continue on to Amboseli National Park where the lush green of the savannah spreads across the Kenya-Tanzania border. Wildebeest wander through the grounds, their heads large, their gruff grunting bubbly yet deep. Beside the roads you can see Masai warriors draped in colourful wraps with bracelets as blue as the ocean in Mombasa and as red as the elephants from Tsavo East. They tread along the grass with sandals often made from discarded motorcycle tires, herding their cattle in the open land, competing with the zebra and wildebeest. The crested crane stands proud and thin with a golden crown adorning its head. Its black feathers drift over white and yellow making the colours shine against the green of the prairie. Its wingspan extends and the crane glides along the soft breeze to the sweet marsh in the distance. Amboseli is close to Tsavo West but is also worlds away. Overnight in Amboseli National Park

Day 5: Elephants and Mountaintops

Rise in the early light of the sun to the gentle scent of morning dew. Today you will venture deeper into Amboseli to see the known and hidden wonders of the national park. The clouds begin to dissipate and the foothills of Kilimanjaro rise from the plain. The stunning peak lingers over the grass almost casting a shadow from the snow-capped peak of Kilimanjaro down to foothills in front of you, the beauty is almost overwhelming. Elephants saunter through the field framed by the mountain beyond, their tusks shimmering in the sunlight. Amboseli is famous for the elephants and how close they are willing to come to safari goers. They lumber and push through the grass. Their bodies are intimidating, their ears flapping to cool themselves. You almost expect the world to rumble with every step they take. The majesty of their movements, their exchange with one another, and their proximity to your vehicle takes your breath away. They pull up grass with their trunks and drop it into their mouths, their tusks moving all the while. An elephant never forgets, nor will you ever be able to forget this moment. Day 6: Mountains to Capitals

The peak of Kilimanjaro drifts behind the horizon as the savannah of Amboseli gives way to the bustling streets of Nairobi. The capital of Kenya is filled with life and vibrancy; skyscrapers reach into the sky in imitation of the mountaintops. The streets are filled with decadent delicacies: the flaky crust of samosas, the rich blend of fresh coffee, and roasting meat. The city is yours to explore filled with the majesty of Kenya; from the sensational wildlife to the diverse cultures, Nairobi has the luxuries and unique experiences for everyone to enjoy.
